PwC Impact 2024

Photo log

Three days, three thousand new interns, one Disney resort. The Game Zone is where most of them actually meet each other, so we supplied the consoles, the screens, and the LED wall that turned a Mario Kart bracket into a spectator sport.

Impact is PwC’s summer conference for the incoming intern class: three days at a Disney resort in Orlando for more than three thousand of them. We cover the technology across their Exchange Space, and the part worth showing is the Game Zone.

The room ran on hardware we sourced and set up ourselves. Two Xbox Series X, two PS5s and six Nintendo Switches, each loaded with its own set of games and wired to 55-inch screens around a lounge of beanbags. The spec was never the point. The point was giving three thousand people who had just met a reason to sit down next to each other.

The tournament went on the LED wall: twenty-eight tiles of 2.3mm at seven wide by four high, running Mario Kart split-screen large enough to follow from the back of the room, with a Meyer package carrying the audio over it. Elsewhere in the Exchange Space we ran the Innovation Hub, Building Belonging and the Exchange Stage, which meant touchscreens, wall-mounted displays, sixteen iPads on their own data, and the laptops feeding the stage.

Four of our technicians worked it, in on the tenth and out on the fifteenth.
